Clyde’s Market was founded by the Current owner and President, Clyde Woolard in 1969.  In 1969 Clyde was a resident of Folkston, Ga.  He was working for his brother-n-law Carl Jones, who is the founder and owner of Flash Foods.  He was managing a Convenience Store in Waycross, Ga.  Clyde decided it was time to branch out on his own.  His plan was to drive up Hwy 301 north until he found a town that he liked and also needed a convenience store.  Hwy 301 was the main thoroughfare from north to south, prior to the construction of interstate 95.  Later that same year he settled in Glennville, Ga. and built his first Convenience Store.

Clyde built his second store in Reidsville in 1974.  He originally built this store with a deli, but several years later, when self service gas was the big push, he closed the deli and added a gasoline island to the store.  This was a land mark decision for the company for two reasons.  1, this was the first self service gas pumps for miles, and 2, he never built another store without gas.  This was a new era in the C-Store industry that many locals said would never work.  Boy, were they wrong.

The company progressed slowly for the next 4 decades to the number of stores that it is at today, 42.  We have always taken a crawl before you walk approach to business, and that has been very successful.  In the mid 80’s Clyde purchased his first oil company.  The company purchased its second oil company in 2003.  By combining these two entities, we have reached a volume in excess of 35,000,000 gallons per year.  Also, in 2009 we opened our first sit down restaurant in our home town of Glennville, Ga.  A Bar-B-Que restaurant called the Rusty Pig.  We have since opened our second location in Rincon, Ga., and we are very pleased with both locations.
